I watched movie when if was premiered in Finland. I got no exeptions for this movie and it was released under my radar because first time i learned this movie was it's trailer and movie itself was premiered next week.
Mad Max series itself it familiar movie series to me, and i have watched these earlier. I have only seen first movie one time because it was hard to find title.
No TV rights (Finnish TV-premiere was 03/2015) or not even VHS edition to find. Most of possible rental copys were destroyed when age rating system changed and K-18 was removed in 1987.
But Mad Max 2: Road warrior (Asfalttisoturi in Finnish) and Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome (Ukkosmyrsky) were familiar movies as these movies were shown on TV and you can find rental copy easier, because slight smaller age-rating.
When i first saw Mad Max: Road fury trailer, my first thoughts was that how psycopathic and brutal there Immortal Joe's gang were and little fear was that it might be too much for me.
This was the case, but this time in a good way. Of course movies main villlain and his gang should be evil/villanious and heros must be some kind of "good guy"
Somehow i liked Immortan Joe's charachter even he was little shadowed by his gang members. Movie don't tell much of back story of them. This is also case of whole movie. Movie start quickly and no too much is telled to watcher. But this is not a bad thing because movie itself is adrenaline pumped action movie as it should be.
Knowing anything about Mad Max universe is no way necessary to enjoy this movie. I think that this is very good way to do this movie. You can find some featurette videos from Youtube where some of these are explained little better, but still many thinks are left explained.
But you learn many thing in some "silent" time in this movie, where you can gather yourself back of the movie theatre seat.
Plot is nicely executed and main and side characters were all written nicely and whole movie itself is great example how action should be filmed.Practical effects and many stunts look extraordinary and use of CGI is keeped minimal as possible.
One charachter that i want to mention is not Max or Furiosa, but Nux. He is this movies "comic relif"
He is not annoying at all, like Jar Jar Binks from Star Wars of Leo Getz from Leathal weapon series.
Calling him as "Comic relief" might little too much, but that way i see him. Some thing's that happend to him in movies were "funny" to me.
This movie happen between first Mad Max and second Road warrior movie, but in sake of story this has no meaning.
All Mad Max movies works greatly on their own story.
Max Rockatansky is played by Tom Hardy. Mel Gibson is nowhere to seen, not even in cameo role.
Mel Gibson is Max, but Max is not Mel Gibson. Max Rockatansky is name of the main character that movies is named by, But he is not center of the movie.
Max is silent man who want nothing more than left alone, because he don't care about world. He don't talk much and is very mysterious. A lone wonderer.
This don't mean that he has no honor. It is buried deep inside but still there. He act because he's needed to or even forced to act.
Well practical.
Must watch in big movie screen and good audio quality in movie theater, It is damn wrong, if you see this movie first time in average home theater,
Movie is released both 2D and Stereo 3D. I watched in 3D but this has no additional value to me. Mainly because i get very easy dizzied and nausea when i watch 3D.
I read that there is going to be at least 2 more movies.
